Mathematics professor Edward Waymire has received the 2014 Carver Medal from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) for his many contributions to the Institute but most notably for exceptional service as editor to the Annals of Applied Probability from 2006 - 2010.
Waymire’s primary research ranges from applications of probability and stochastic processes to problems of contemporary applied mathematics pertaining to various types of flows, dispersion and random disorder.

IMS created the Carver Medal in 2002 in honor of Harry C. Carver, founding editor of the Annals of Mathematical Statistics and one of the founders of IMS. The medal is awarded to individuals for exceptional service to the IMS.
The Institute of Mathematical Statistics was created in 1933 as a member organization, which fosters the development and dissemination of theory and applications of statistics and probability. The IMS has 4000 active members around the world.
