Thank you for your interest in the OSU Graduate Program in Mathematics.
We typically have about 70 graduate students in the Mathematics program, with about 10 pursuing an M.S. and 60 working toward a Ph.D. Many of our Ph.D. students earn their M.S. en route to their Ph.D..
Our students come from various national and international undergraduate and masters programs, with degrees mostly (but not exclusively) in mathematical sciences. Each year we welcome 15-20 new graduates into our friendly and collaborative environment. Successful applicants are enthusiastic about studying mathematics at the graduate level, and usually have completed undergraduate coursework in linear algebra and introductory real analysis. Many have had exposure to mathematical research, and/or have had other professional experiences. Students with a good undergraduate background may apply directly to the Ph.D. program. Students with a prior Master's degree may also apply. We also accept students only interested in the Master's program.
